A Manifesto for UnSerious Me

I’m trying to rebel against myself. Specifically, I am trying to revolt against the part of my personality that is diligent, studious, constantly planning, and competitive. Those parts are useful, don’t get me wrong. I do like feeling that I have accomplished something. A “serious” personality is very useful for that. But that part of my personality has really consumed the rest of everything that I do, which has become really exhausting recently. We spoke about it:

Serious Me: Why are you writing this blog? You have plenty of things that you should be doing and you are just sitting there wasting time.

UnSerious Me: Serious Me, I think we need to have a talk about our relationship.

And we did. And there was crying and hugging and ice cream afterwards, but we reached an agreement about the role that he has. He knows there are many reasons why Serious Me is a fairly large part of my personality.

1. I am in graduate school for international relations with concentrations in economics and Southeast Asian studies. (Fun)

2. The name of that school is the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Relations. (Double Fun)

3. I live in Washington DC. (Fun^∞)

Consider this posting a manifesto for Unserious Me, and an embrace of the silly at the expense of studying Calculus.
